SW 101社会工作概论 (3学分)The course acquaints students with the history, 哲学, 值, and knowledge base of the 社会 work profession. The course emphasizes human diversity and generalist practice. The goals of the course are to (1) provide students with an 准确的 understanding of what 社会 workers do, (2) begin to 社会ize students to the 值 and 哲学 of the 社会 work profession, (3) introduce students for the methods and approaches of 社会 work, (4) introduce students to the generalist 社会 work practice paradigm, and (5) develop a basic level of critical thinking and writing skills needed in 社会 work practice.

SW 250 Social Welfare History and Policy (3学分)Explores the historical development of the 社会 work profession and current policies governing the 社会 service delivery system within the United States. Social policy is presented as a 社会 construction influenced by a range of ideologies and interests. Special attention is paid to 社会 welfare policy and programs relevant to the practice of 社会 work, 包括贫困, 儿童及家庭福利, 精神及身体残疾, 健康, 和种族, 少数民族, 性少数群体. The course includes a focus on the role of policy in creating, maintaining or eradicating 社会 inequities.

SW 321 Basics of Professional Communication (3学分)Focuses on the development of basic communication and observational skills needed for subsequent 社会 work methods courses.
